MW Group Indonesia plans to launch 10 new vehicles in Indonesian in 2015 as part of the company'€™s strategy to keep the rupiah'€™s depreciation from overly affecting its sales.

BMW Group Indonesia'€™s head of corporate communications, Jodie O'€™Tania, said the strategy was worked out last year. She explained that the process of introducing 10 new BMW models to the Indonesian market started with the launch of the Series 2 Active Tourer premium compact car on Thursday.

'€œThe Active Tourer is the first of 10 vehicles that BMW plans to roll out in Indonesia in 2015. The planned vehicles will be a fairly even mix between BMW and Mini models,'€ Jodie told The Jakarta Post on Thursday on the sidelines of the Active Tourer'€™s launch event.

She explained that the Active Tourer would be part of a new BMW segment named the '€œpremium compact car'€, consisting mostly of compact cars with spacious interiors.

The model names of the 10 vehicles have yet to be officially released by the company.

Jodie said the sales numbers of other BMW variants such as the X1 series and Series 1 and Series 3 would not be affected by the addition of a new segment, as the described variants were considered BMW'€™s most popular vehicles on the Indonesian market.

She said that BMW sold up to 406 vehicles in February 2015, which is a 4 percent increase from the 391 vehicles sold in February 2014. Sixty-six percent of vehicles sold in 2015 were from the Series 3 variant, with 269 units sold in the first two months of the year. (nvn)(++++)
