Greater Jakarta: Johar Baru cuts illegal electricity installations

T

he Johar Baru district, in cooperation with state-owned power company PLN, conducted a raid that targeted illegal electricity installations in several corners of Johar Baru Utara, North Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Johar Baru District head Ihsan Rofiq Sururi said the raid was conducted as ordered by North Jakarta Mayor Rustam Effendi to prevent fire incidents caused by electrical short circuits.

Ihsan said besides houses, many street vendors had also used electricity through illegal installations while working on sidewalks at night. He added that some of them took electricity from nearby security posts or parks.

'€œWe found at least 100 illegal installations,'€ he said as quoted by tribunnews.com. Areas targeted in the raid included Jl. Percetakan Negara, the Johar Baru market, Jl. Mandani and Jl. Karang Asem.
