he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) grilled on Wednesday former Golkar Party lawmaker Zulkarnaen Djabar, who has been sentenced to 15 years behind bars in a Koran procurement case, in its investigation into massive irregularities surrounding the 2012 haj program.
The questioning came after the KPK said that it was currently looking to charge House of Representatives lawmakers from Commission VIII overseeing religion, which supervises the Religious Affairs Ministry, in the haj scandal that caused more than Rp 1 trillion (US$77 million) in state losses. Former religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali has been netted in the case.
Zulkarnaen served as a Commission VII member when the alleged irregularities in the haj program took place. He also worked as a member of the House's working committee tasked with supervising the haj program at that time.
'He is questioned as a witness to complete the dossier of SDA,' KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha said, referring to Suryadharma by initials.
