AKARTA: The Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency has issued new IDs for 7,872 residents of low-cost apartments across the city in order to prevent them from subletting the apartments.
Agency head Edison Sianturi said the agency, in cooperation with the Jakarta Housing and Administrative Building Agency, had recorded and issued the tenants' IDs from January to March.
'The program is to ensure that the address on the IDs is the same as their apartment address,' he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com on Friday.
Low-cost apartments built by the city are only for residents who have been relocated from riverbanks and areas around water reservoirs.
Edison said that before receiving the new IDs, the tenants should sign a contract with the Housing Agency. The contracts state their commitment to personally living in the apartments.
Tenants who obtain IDs are obliged to open a bank account and pay their rent through an auto debit system.
'If their IDs data is in accordance with their actual data, it will be easier to monitor them,' Edison said.
