AMBI: Plantation firm PT Wahana Perintis has decided to give 114 hectares of its rubber plantations to the Orang Rimba tribe in Batanghari regency, Jambi.
Environment and Forestry Ministry forestry business development director general Bambang Hendroyono said on Thursday that the land was located within the company's industrial forest permit, which was home to 3-year-old rubber trees.
'The rubber farm will be managed by the Orang Rimba with assistance from the government. The harvest will be sold to PT Wahana Perintis,' he said.
In return, Bambang said the government had guaranteed the company that it could expand its plantation area.
