NBA Junior to hold selections for overseas training in Indonesia

T

he National Basketball Association of North America (NBA) will invite a group of Indonesian kids, based on a selection process, to participate in training overseas.

NBA Junior will hold a national selection program on Aug. 22 and 23 in Jakarta to help select 40 boys and 24 girls that are considered to be the best players in the program.

NBA Asia senior director of marketing Jim Wong said that the 40 boys and 24 girls, who will range between the ages of 10 to 14, will then engage in a national training session in Jakarta from Aug. 28 to 30.

After the national training session, the NBA will then chose a final 10 boys and four girls to ultimately participate in the 2015 NBA Junior Indonesia All-Stars training session overseas, joining other NBA Junior All-Stars from other ASEAN countries.

Basketball training clinics have been carried out since 2014 in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Jim explained that the NBA Junior program will begin with a series of basketball clinics for students and teachers in several schools on March 28 and 29.

The deputy chairman of the Indonesian Sports Council (KONI) for international cooperation and legal affairs, Immanuel Robert Inkiriwang, said that the NBA Junior program was supporting KONI'€™s national campaign.

'€œWe want Indonesian kids to have a healthy spirit and strong physical body,'€ Robert said on Saturday as quoted by Antara news agency. (dyl/nvn)
