A

quake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted Gorontalo province in Sulawesi, following a milder tremor that hit Manokwari, West Papua, hours earlier on Sunday morning.

In Manokwari, panicked citizens rushed to get out of their houses at 3:30 a.m. local time when the magnitude 4.7 quake hit the city.

Manokwari Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the epicenter of the quake was in the sea, some 41 kilometers northwest of Manokwari.

Hours later, at 6:28 a.m. local time, the 5.8-scale tremor hit Gorontalo.
