he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Monday received three pretrial hearing requests filed by graft suspects at the South Jakarta District Court.
The first request was filed by Suroso Atmomartoyo, a former state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina processing director. Suroso was named a suspect for allegedly smoothing over tetraethyl lead (TEL) supply contracts at Pertamina between 2004-2005. The case is popularly referred to as the Innospec graft case.
The second pretrial hearing request was filed by former religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali, who was named a suspect for graft surrounding the 2012-2013 haj pilgrimage program run by the ministry.
The third pretrial hearing request was filed by former Supreme Audit Agency head, Hadi Poernomo, who was named a suspect for allegedly abusing his authority as taxation director general to approve tax objections filed by Indonesia's biggest private bank, Bank Central Asia (BCA).
The court decided to delay the three pretrial hearings -- which were scheduled to be held at 9 a.m. -- all at once following postponement requests submitted by the antigraft body.
The KPK's legal affairs division head, Chatarina Girsang, earlier said the KPK had prepared three legal teams to argue the pretrial hearings.
She said the commission had added more legal personnel to deal with the pretrial hearings, with support from prosecutors.
'If we face only one pretrial hearing request, we don't need to include the prosecutors. This can be handled by our legal affairs bureau,' said Chatarina.
'The problem is, we are facing three pretrial hearing requests that will be processed all at once. The number of legal bureau members is not sufficient to handle the cases, so we have decided to recruit additional personnel,' she said.
Currently, the commission's legal bureau team comprises some 11 people. (ebf)(+++)
