hiladelphia's planning for some headline-grabbing visitors: the pope, the democrats, and the impressionists.
The last one's not a time-travel trick. It's an exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art opening June 24 called 'Discovering the Impressionists: Paul Durand-Ruel and the New Painting.' Duran-Ruel was a Parisian art dealer who championed Impressionism in its early stages, and the show will include more than 80 works by Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Degas, Manet and others.
Pope Francis is scheduled to visit the City of Brotherly Love in September for the World Meeting of Families conference. He's expected to do two massive public events on the Ben Franklin Parkway, one for the festival of families on Sept. 26 and a Mass Sept. 27.
Other events unfolding in Philly this spring and summer include the launch of a Bike Share program, which will offer 600 bikes for rent at 60 stations; the opening of an observation deck at One Liberty Place, and exhibitions and programs at the Rosenbach of the Free Library of Philadelphia celebrating the 150th anniversary of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' beginning Oct. 14.
Looking ahead to July 2016, Philadelphia will host the Democratic National Convention.
