Home Ministry approves Jakarta budget

H

ome Minister Tjahjo Kumolo revealed on Wednesday he had verified the draft of a Jakarta gubernatorial regulation on the 2015 city budget and expected it to be issued soon.

'€œToday [Wednesday], we have handed over the reviewed Jakarta gubernatorial regulation on the 2015 city budget, including a number of priorities that should be included in the budget,'€ he said at the Presidential Palace.

Despite the approval, Tjahjo said he still expected Jakarta Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama and Jakarta City Council members to discuss the revised city budget together, as both the executive and legislative bodies should endorse the budget.

'€œThere should be a revision to it, because it would be such a shame if there weren'€™t,'€ he said.

Until an agreement is reached between Ahok and the City Council, the budget disbursement can only be carried out through a gubernatorial regulation, as the only way to protect the citizens' interests amid the dispute.

'€œThe Home Ministry hopes the disbursement won'€™t be delayed, even for a single day,'€ Tjahjo stated.

He added that Ahok could continue filing reports on allegedly dubious allocations in the 2015 budget draft to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), while on the other hand, the City Councilors could keep on exercising their right of inquiry into Ahok. (fsu/nvn)(+++)
