he city administration plans to build 29 new parks on 10 hectares of land situated in all five municipalities, mostly in South Jakarta, with a budget of Rp 56.6 billion (US$4.35 million).
The parks' construction will begin right after the city funds are available as the land is already on hand, said Parks and Cemetery Agency head Nandar Sunandar as quoted by beritajakarta.com. Each park will utilize 2,000 to 5,000 square meters of land and receive a different budget allocation depending on the size and the needs of each proposed site.
The city's 2012-2017 mid-term regional development plan has targeted an additional 40 hectares of new parks and 10 hectares of cemeteries per year, eyeing 30 percent green areas in the city from the current 10 percent.
'We have never achieved the 50-hectare target since 2012 due to land-acquisition problems,' Nandar said on Wednesday.
