Indonesian Army chief-of-staff Gen
ndonesian Army chief-of-staff Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo held a meeting on Monday with governors from across Sumatra in Medan, North Sumatra, to discuss a war concept.
In the meeting, he explained the concept of proxy war, or war using third parties, with the motive of seizing natural resource wealth.
Bukit Barisan Military Command spokesman Let. Col. Enoh Solehudin told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday that Gatot had met with the governors of North Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands and West Sumatra to convey messages on war preparedness in the future.
According to Enoh, the meeting, attended by 2,500 participants from provincial agencies, the National Police and community leaders, heard warnings of the expansion of countries under the proxy war concept because of economic issues such as the fight for natural resources.
'Nurmantyio reminded the governors of resource issues, especially energy, which is the target of other countries,' said Enoh by telephone.
