undreds of traders at the Sambu traditional market in Medan staged a rally on Monday, rejecting the municipality's decision to relocate the market.
The traders blocked the crossroads of Jl. Sutomo-Jl. HM Yamin and Jl. Sutomo-Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan and burned tires, causing heavy congestion in the areas for hours.
After blocking the roads, the traders marched to the Medan Administrative Court and filed a lawsuit to cancel the municipality's decree.
'We came here to file [a lawsuit], so the court could annul the government's decision,' the trader's lawyer Henry Sianturi said.
Juliana, one of the traders, said they refused to be relocated from the old market to the new Tuntungan market as it was located far away in the suburbs.
