he North Sumatra Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi) has criticized irregular logging in Siosar forest, which is where residents displaced by Mount Sinabung's eruption in Karo regency have been relocated.
Walhi activists said there was no clear indication of how many trees had been felled and where they had been taken.
North Sumatra Walhi director Kusnadi Oldani said he strongly believed the trees had already been illegally sold.
He added that the Karo regency administration should immediately inform the public on the use of timber logged from the relocation area.
According to Kusnadi, the government should also consider the ecological impact of the relocation. According to him, unrestrained logging in the relocation area could lead to floods and landslides in the coming years.
