Your letters: Indonesia has a long way to go

I

refer to an article titled '€œSukarno'€™s dynasty is all that glitters in PDI-P,'€ (The Jakarta Post, April 9).

Dynasty politics are here now and will be here in the future. In India, the Gandhis ran the Congress Party-dominated government for almost 60 years. Although loyalty had been a key factor over the years, it became irrelevant in the 2014 general elections.

The best government is transparent, accountable, just, disciplined, innovative, proactive and highly cooperative with the legislature for the sole benefit of the country in every aspect.

Indonesia has a long way to go. There'€™s hope as we have President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo. But of course it will be very difficult to redress all the shortcomings over the years, mainly because autonomous regions, provincial cities and towns are lagging far behind in human resources and development in almost every field of operation.

Most of the civil servants are inefficient and dysfunctional as they have been appointed to their respective desks mostly by nepotism, bribery and collusion.

Throughout the whole country the massive waste of resources and funds is visible because there has been a lack of sincere education in almost every field: commerce, economics, science, mathematics, languages, environment, medicine, engineering, technology, management, administration, agriculture and the rest.

Indonesia has deeply compromised the education system, leaving the vast majority of our citizens poorly qualified or skilled. Until today many people actually buy their qualifications.

Because of a lack of sincerity in  education, many moral, fundamental and intrinsic values of life are ignored or left unaware, leading to irresponsible, inefficient and wasteful management.
