he Jayapura Corruption Court has acquitted Waropen Regent Yesaya Buiney of a corruption charge surrounding the misuse of Rp 3 billion (US230,000) from the regency budget for the election commission.
Presiding judge Marthinus Bala said the defendant was not proven guilty of ordering the disbursement of the funds in 2010.
The court's decision was applauded by hundreds of Yesaya's supporters who packed the courtroom.
Prosecutors, who earlier demanded that the court sentence Yesaya to six years in prison, said they would appeal the court's decision.
