Agung-led Golkar optimistic about participation in simultaneous polls

T

he Golkar Party faction led by former coordinating minister for people'€™s welfare Agung Laksono expressed its optimism that his camp would be allowed and prepared to contest the upcoming simultaneous local elections.

Secretary-general of the Agung-led Golkar Party Zainuddin Amali said the party'€™s internal conflict would be settled soon after the state administrative court affirmed the decision of the party'€™s honorary tribunal, which recently validated the national congress conducted by Agung Laksono'€™s camp.

'€œIf the state administrative court makes no decision until July, Golkar will unlikely contest the simultaneous elections scheduled for December 2015,'€ he said.

The court is still trying the lawsuit filed by the Aburizal Bakrie-led camp against the law and human rights affairs minister who issued a ministerial decree recognizing the Agung-led camp as the valid executive board of the party. Aburizal was reelected during the Golkar'€™s congress held in Bali in December 2014.

Zainuddin said his side was still making an internal consolidation and selecting party members who would be nominated to contest the local elections.

'€œWe have open registration for members and functionaries wanting to contend the simultaneous local elections,'€ he said as quoted by kompas.com.

Meanwhile, seven legislators of the Agung-led camp defied their transfer by Aburizal-led faction leaders to other commissions and said they would maintain their membership in their current commission.

Dave Laksono said he would not move to the House'€™s Commission VIII on religious and social affairs, as had earlier been ordered to do by faction chairman Ade Komaruddin, because Ade'€™s leadership and camp was illegal.

Zainuddin who was transferred to the social and religious affairs commission, said he would defend his membership in his current Commission III on law because the faction representing Aburizal'€™s camp no longer had the authority to transfer him. (rms)(+++)
