ndonesia expects the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference Commemoration (AACC) will serve not only as a celebration, but as an evaluation for producing joint efforts in facing new challenges, Vice President Jusuf Kalla has said.
Kalla explained that it was important to bring back a similar spirit of solidarity among Asian and African nations to that which was shown 60 years ago when they faced a period of decolonization after the end of World War II.
Member countries are now facing new challenges of maintaining peace and harmony in the Asian-African region, global justice and collective economic improvement.
'Therefore, other than to discuss the Bandung message [which will lay out the evaluation], there will also be discussions on Palestine and on how to reform the United Nations and promote justice" Kalla told The Jakarta Post on Monday when asked about the concrete outcomes expected during the AACC.
Last week, President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo told his ministers to draft speeches that would be able to deliver a strong message on new governance and global justice, saying that world institutions such as the UN had not been able to play a role in creating a just world. (ren)(++++)
