irst Lady Iriana launched on Tuesday a national program to promote public participation in early cancer detection to help reduce fatalities from the disease.
Iriana said there should be public awareness of the need to participate in preventing and curing cancer, particularly cervical cancer.
"We call on the public to boost the fight against cancer by undertaking early detection," said Iriana.
Under the program, the government will aim to equip all puskesmas(community health centers) with early-detection facilities for cervical cancer.
With one patient dying every hour, Indonesia has among the world's highest rates of cervical cancer, according to the Health Ministry. (ren)(+++)
