Islands in focus: Airport trespasser returned to hometown

T

he Kualanamu International Airport Authority has arrested Mario Steven Ambarita, who recently made headlines for hiding onto a Garuda aircraft'€™s wheel well during a flight, for fear that he would again trespass and jump into an airplane.

Airport head Muhammad Nasir said Mario was arrested on Sunday after staying at the airport for a day. '€œHe was returned to his home town this evening,'€ Nasir told reporters on Monday.

Mario denied that he was going to trespass and jump onto an airplane. '€œI was just watching the planes here.'€

The 21-year-old admitted he went to Medan by bus from Pekanbaru, Riau without the knowledge of his parents, to look for job.

On April 7, Mario managed to get out of a wheel well of a Garuda Indonesia jetliner where he had hidden throughout its one-hour flight from Pekanbaru, to Jakarta. He was then rushed to a clinic after employees at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport discovered him standing on the apron.
