Putting it briefly: Emerio, Challengers win in elimination rounds

E

merio scraped through to a two-wicket victory over Menara, while the Challengers swept aside Ceylon by 7 wickets in the latest JCA League elimination round games.

At Cibubur, Menara was sent in to bat by Emerio and after a cautious start when they reached 35/1 in 12 overs, the Emerio bowlers struck regular blows to reduce Menara to 60/6 (24 overs), before bowling them out for 102 in 31.5 overs. Only Atul Kakkar (20) offered any resistance with the bat, while Anjaneyulu Katta (3-23) was the pick of the Emerio bowlers.

Rain intervened during Emerio'€™s run chase when they were 55/3 in 19 overs. Once the rain stopped and play resumed, Menara kept on taking regular wickets, but Emerio held on to snatch victory in the 33rd over, reaching 103 for 8.

Over at GMIS, the Challengers continued their recent fine form, this time by thrashing an under-performing Ceylon by 7 wickets with almost 25 overs to spare. Ceylon'€™s decision to bat after winning the toss proved to be disastrous as it crashed to 45/4 (12 overs) before being skittled out for a paltry 65 in 19.2 overs. Santosh Kumar (3-10) and Sunil Samtani (2-12) were the chief tormentors with the ball for the Challengers. In reply, the Challengers raced to the target in just 10.2 overs, reaching 68/3 with Wayne Rodrigues unbeaten on 31. Rajeev Kumar took 2-21 for Ceylon. With this loss, Ceylon are relegated to Division-2 while the Challengers keep up their Division-1 title aspirations.
