he police officially detained former Alor regent Simeon Thobias Pally on Tuesday for alleged involvement in graft involving Rp 1.6 billion (US$123,000) from the regency's budget 2012.
'He was detained after being questioned because it was feared that he would disappear or tamper with evidence,' East Nusa Tenggara Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Agus Santoso said.
Agus alleged that the suspect disbursed the money and gave it to recipients despite the disbursement not being listed in the budget.
He said Simeon would be charged under articles 2 and 3 of the 1999 Corruption Law, which carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in jail.
