Islands in focus: Papua needs mosquito nets to curb malaria

T

he Papua Health Agency says it has 300,000 mosquito nets but requires 250,000 more to reduce the number of malaria patients in the province.

'€œHopefully, the shortage can be met next year, or regency administrations that have yet to receive theirs could procure the nets by themselves,'€ said Ni Nyoman Ari Antara, head of the AIDS, TB and Malaria Technical Implementation Unit at the Papua Health Agency in Jayapura on Tuesday.

Antara said the health agency planned to distribute mosquito nets in nine regencies that did not receive their share earlier.

Last year, the agency distributed 1 million mosquito nets in 16 regencies and cities as part of Global Fund aid.
