he police's Rank and Promotion Council for High-Ranking Officers (Wanjakti) has unanimously backed that Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan, whose nomination as National Police chief was dropped by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo after he was declared a graft suspect, as the new deputy police chief.
Sources within the police said Wanjakti had agreed to nominate Budi and that he would be proposed to Jokowi in coming days.
A member of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) confirmed that Budi would be nominated as deputy police chief.
'We heard about his [nomination] and it has been confirmed,' Kompolnas member Edi Saputra Hasibuan said as quoted by kompas.com.
Edi said a formal announcement on Budi's appointment as deputy to the newly inaugurated Comr. Gen. Badrodin Haiti would be made in the next few days.
Badrodin, who is a former head of Wanjakti, told The Jakarta Post on Sunday that all three-star police generals, including Budi, had been put on the priority list of prospective candidates.
