t least 692,279 students in South Sulawesi will receive aid from the Indonesia Smart Program (PIP), initiated by Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo before he was elected president, through the Indonesia Smart Card (KIP) in May.
'The data may not be valid, but we will strive to improve and monitor the program,' the province's secondary and higher education assistant, Asril Umar, said during a PIP and KIP campaign in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Wednesday. According to Asril, data was collected from the integrated data base of the 2011 social protection program and was adjusted last year and would be updated this year.
He also ensured that KIP assistance would not overlap with the free education program introduced in South Sulawesi in 2008, as the aid, allocated for needy children, could cover their educational needs.
