he Islamic-based Crescent Star Party (PBB) opened its fourth congress on Friday in Cisarua, Bogor regency, West Java, to pick a new chairman .
"The congress is based on brotherhood to develop the party," outgoing chairman MS Kaban said when opening the congress as reported by Antara news agency.
He hoped for a smooth congress and called on all chairmanship contenders to exhibit sportsmanlike behavior and accept defeat gracefully.
About 400 participants from 34 provincial chapters are taking part in the congress, which runs until Sunday.
Meanwhile, PBB secretary for media and publication Teddy Gusnaidi said so far there were four candidates who had announced their chairmanship candidacies: Yusril, Amrullah Andi Hamid, Jamaludin Karim and Sahar L. Hasan.
Party chapters and branches also proposed two other names: party member Hamdan Zoelfa and outsider Rhoma Irama. (nvn)(+++)
