AKARTA: Self-styled king of dangdut Rhoma Irama has joined the race for the Crescent Star Party's (PBB) chairmanship for the 2015-2020 period.
Incumbent chairman MS Kaban said that Rhoma was among candidates in the race, which also includes former chairman Yusril Ihza Mahendra.
'It is a matter of time before his [Rhoma's] announcement. We also preparing ourselves if he decides to run in the 2019 presidential election,' Kaban said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Kaban said that he would not seek reelection.
Last year, Rhoma had been tapped as the National Awakening Party (PKB)'s presidential candidate but was later dropped.
Rhoma later said that he was disappointed by PKB chairman Muhaimin Iskandar for having broken his promise to support his presidential nomination.
Rhoma felt he had been manipulated by Muhaimin as a vote-getter only.
