ASEAN Summit to be focused on internal problems: Minister

F

oreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi has said the 26th ASEAN Summit will be focused on discussing internal ASEAN problems, such as the centralization of ASEAN.

'€œWe will discuss how we can have more efficient and effective ASEAN sessions and ways we will take in conducting dialogues, in responding to or creating rules to make new dialogue partners in the future, and so on,'€ she said as quoted by Antara news agency after attending a dinner banquet at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center on Sunday evening.

The 26th ASEAN Summit, scheduled to take place from April 26 to April 29, will be held in two sessions, namely plenary sessions in Kuala Lumpur and retreat sessions in Langkawi, Kedah.

On the sidelines of the summit, heads of state or government of ASEAN member countries are scheduled to meet with representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC), ASEAN Youth Representatives and civil society organization (CSO) representatives.

The ASEAN leaders will also be invited to attend the 12th ASEAN Leadership Forum in Kuala Lumpur.

The meetings of heads of state and government from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines '€” the East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) '€” and the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) are scheduled to be held on Tuesday in Langkawi. (ebf)
