ice President Jusuf Kalla has asked the Golkar Party and United Development Party (PPP) to quickly settle their internal conflicts so they can participate in this year's simultaneous local elections.
'The registration of candidates will be conducted in July, two months from now. So, the two parties should speed up the settlement of their internal conflicts to allow them to make necessary preparations, including the selection of candidates before being registered with the General Election Commission [KPU],' kompas.com quoted him as saying here on Monday.
The Vice President stressed that the KPU and the government would go ahead with the simultaneous local elections scheduled for December 2015, even if the two parties failed to settle their internal conflicts.
According to the 2013 Political Party Law, only parties with an executive board that has been recognized by the law and human rights minister are allowed to contest elections.
KPU commissioner Ida Budiarti said the commission would register only regional head candidates nominated by political parties with a valid leadership. (rms)(++++)
