According to a letter from the Riau Police to the suspect, which was leaked to local media, the latter was questioned on his status as a suspect on April 24.
Riau Police Chief Brig. Gen. Bambang Hermawan confirmed that Ahmad had been named suspect and would be questioned again on Thursday.
According to the police, Ahmad, also chairman of the Democratic Party's provincial chapter in Riau, intentionally provoked a number of villagers in Kepenuhan district, Rokan Hulu, to harvest oil palm that had been set as status quo since the two companies both claimed valid ownership.
Seven villagers found harvesting the disputed oil-palm plantation have been held as suspects. (++++)
