bout 18 percent of 107 private apartment complexes across Jakarta is problematic, with problems ranging from apartment tenants' association and management issues, to permit issues, an official said on Tuesday.
Jakarta Housing and Government Buildings Agency head Ika Lestari Aji admitted that one of the most problematic apartments was South Jakarta's Kalibata City, which is developed by the Agung Podomoro Group and managed by PT Prima Buana Internusa. It was recently revealed that various illegal activities took place in the apartment, from prostitution to drug distribution. The apartment also had issues with its tenants' association.
Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said that he would issue a new Gubernatorial Regulation where district and subdistrict heads would be given the power to fire community unit (RW) and neighborhood unit (RT) heads if they fell short in managing security and order in their areas. The regulation would also apply to apartment neighborhoods.
"It is difficult for us to directly supervise activities in apartments, therefore it is up to the local leaders. With this new regulation, hopefully we can increase monitoring and supervision," he said.(+++)
