The police, in cooperation with local informal figures, raided a number of hotels in West Jakarta at dawn on Sunday and netted 35 unmarried pairs of youths. The unmarried pairs and the hotels'€™ on-duty managers were escorted to the Tambora Police for questioning.

Tambora Police chief Comr. Deddy Tabrani said that all the unmarried pairs and the hotels'€™ on-duty managers were questioned and reprimanded.

What is most sad is that again they only target the poor and weak. The wealthy are allowed to drink beer, entertain women even take drugs in their five-star hotel rooms, while the masses are forced to live a life dictated to them by third-generation politicians who don'€™t care about the people they are paid to represent.

Who benefits from prostitution in Jakarta? Are the police trying to muscle in on military territory? Is this an absurd example of the lack of human rights in Indonesia?

Are '€œunmarried pairs'€ guys with prostitutes, or are they just young men and women having affairs? Does this mean that if a guy and a girl want to have sex, they will be arrested?

You see, that is the problem. Is Indonesia under Islamic law, or is it a democracy where there is freedom to do what you want if it is not illegal. Prostitution is rampant in Java and Bali.
