12-year-old boy, identified as AL, was found dead on Monday morning after reportedly being sucked into a water channel at a public swimming pool at Grogol Petamburan sports center in West Jakarta.
AL, who lived in Kapuk subdistrict, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, was swimming with nine friends on Sunday when he is said to have been pulled into the water channel. According to the victim's uncle, Nur Huda, the victim's friends immediately reported the incident to the pool guard, but the latter allegedly took the report lightly.
Acting Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Budi Widjanarko said that the police were investigating the case.
'As yet, we haven't reached a conclusion as to whether the incident was caused by negligence,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that investigators would question the sports center managers.
