s many as six regencies in Papua might not be able to hold regional leadership elections on Dec. 9 as they have yet to allocate election funds in their budgets.
'Should the regencies fail to make budgetary adjustments, they might not be able to hold elections this year,' said Papua General Elections Commission (KPUD) head Adam Arisoi in Jayapura on Monday.
As many as 11 regencies in Papua are scheduled to take part in the simultaneous elections, however only five of them have allocated funds for the purpose, namely Supiori, Nabire, Merauke, Asmat and Mamberamo Raya.
The six other regencies that have yet to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the regency KPUDs to hold the elections are Yahukimo, Pegunungan Bintang, Waropen, Boven Digoel and Sarmi.
