he National Police's detective division has scheduled for city councilor Abraham "Lulung" Lunggana to be interrogated on Wednesday in connection with a case of suspected graft relating to the procurement of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) devices.
"He will be questioned tomorrow [Wednesday] because he wasn't able to fulfill his original summons on Monday," detective division chief Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso told reporters on Tuesday.
Although Budi would not disclose what Lulung's alleged role was in the case, he said that "several witness testimonies have led us to believe [he was involved]".
On Monday afternoon, police investigators searched Lulung and fellow councilor Fahmi Zulfikar's offices at the City Council (DPRD) complex in Central Jakarta, alongside the Commission E meeting room.
Investigators hauled away a box of documents and several electronic devices as evidence.
Lulung, who from 2009 to 2014 was coordinator of City Council Commission E on welfare, was not present during the search. The entrepreneur, whose office is on the building's ninth floor, is currently deputy chairman of the City Council and a member of the United Development Party (PPP) faction.
Several members of Commission E and a number of city officials are suspected to have conspired on mark-ups for UPS procurement in the 2014 budget. (ren)(+++)
