omen grouped in the Mothers of Bandung community declared on Tuesday to take care of the West Java capital after Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil criticized residents for being 'uncivilized' by damaging public facilities used in the 60th Asian-African Conference Commemoration last week.
The 'Ibu-ibu Bandung' (Mothers of Bandung) community, consisting of members of majlis ta'lim (Islamic study groups) and the private sector, vowed to help Bandung municipality in its efforts to keep the city beautiful.
The declaration was made at the Bandung mayoralty office. 'I appreciate the initiative of the mothers who are willing to take care of Bandung,' Ridwan said in Bandung as quoted by Antara news agency.
The community vowed to cooperate with the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) by disciplining residents and donating flowers and garden pots and providing garbage collectors, gardeners and sidewalk cleaners, among other things.
On Monday, Ridwan criticized citizens for vandalizing public facilities, which included the removal of flags of AACC participating countries as well as iron plaques bearing their names, flowers, garden pots and three benches.(+++)
