ducation agencies in several regions have stated they are ready to hold national exams for junior high school students on Monday, although only one school in Jakarta is intending to use computer-based exams.
The West Java Education Agency said that exam papers had been sent to distribution spots in the province's cities and regencies.
'We are ready to hold the national exams for junior high school students. ['¦] All of the exam sheets are ready to be unloaded in the regencies and the cities,' agency head Asep Hilman said in Bandung on Sunday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He added that the agency had also received additional packages to make up the initial shortage.
In West Java, 790,138 students are set to take the national exam, comprising 570,573 students from private and state junior high schools, 156,689 students from Madrasah (Islamic schools) and 692 students from schools for children with disabilities.
Three schools are slated to hold computer-based tests, including SMPN 1 Cibinong state junior high school in Bogor, West Java, as well as SMP Nurul Fikri private school and SMP Cahaya Bangsa Classical School in West Bandung regency.
In Jayapura, Papua, 4,724 students are to take the paper-based exam. "The exam papers have been distributed to five sub-regions," said the head of the Jayapura Education Agency, I Wayan Mudyasa.
In Jakarta, meanwhile. Only one school, SMPK BPK Penabur 2, is ready to hold computer-based exams.
"Almost all schools in Jakarta have been equipped with computer facilities, but only one school has met the criteria to hold the computer-based exams," Jakarta Education Agency head Arie Budiman said.
Security for the distribution of exam materials has been stepped up, with the Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Ministry aiming to prevent leaks and cheating.
National exams for junior high school students are slated to be held from Monday to Thursday this week. (fsu)(+++)
