T Mercedes-Benz Indonesia (MBI), a subsidiary of German car manufacturer Daimler AG, launched its new C-Class vehicle, which is to be assembled in Indonesia, during the company's 45th anniversary of operations in the country on Monday.

The launch of the luxury sedans - the C 200 Avantgarde, C 250 Exclusiv and C 250 AMG '€“ represents the fourth generation of the popular vehicle series.

"We can say proudly that 75 percent of Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold in Indonesia are locally assembled," said MBI president and CEO Claus Weidner.

The local assembly business model, also practiced by luxury automaker rival BMW Group Indonesia, is intended to expedite delivery time and reduce costs, allowing the company to offer more competitive prices.

MBI has since 1987 assembled its C-Class, E-Class, M-Class and S-Class vehicles at its plant in Wanaherang, Bogor, West Java.

The new C-Class vehicles boast more power, as well as lower emissions and fuel consumption.

For top speeds of up to 244 km/hour on the C 250 Exclusive and 235 km/hour on the C 250 AMG and C 200 Avantgarde, the vehicles consume 5.3 to 5.6 liters for every 100 kilometers.

The C 200 Avantgarde is priced at Rp 719 million (US$55,254), while the C 250 Exclusive and C 250 AMG cost Rp 769 million and Rp 819 million, respectively. (fsu/ren)(+++)
