he Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced on Monday a 0.36 percent rise of inflation in April compared to the previous month on the back of the increasing prices of fuel and 12-kg cannisters of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Year-to-date inflation reached 0.08 percent, while the year-on-year rate was 6.79 percent, according to the BPS.
"Higher prices of LPG, fuel and transportation costs accounted for the biggest chunk in driving up inflation," said BPS chairman Suryamin.
The government has forecast inflation this year at 5 percent while the central bank has predicted it will top 6 percent. (ren)(+++)
