Tedjo tight-lipped over Novel's arrest

C

oordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno was tight-lipped over the arrest of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) top investigator Novel Baswedan.

Unlike on a previous occasion when Tedjo publicly expressed opinions regarding incidents involving law enforcers, Tedjo refused to discuss anything about Novel's arrest when reporters asked him on the sidelines of a national meeting in Jakarta on Monday about the upcoming simultaneous local elections.

He stopped short when reporters continued to inquire into the matter, only saying that "it will be resolved later".

The National Police arrested Novel last Friday as a suspect in a 2004 shooting of a man accused of stealing swallow nests in Bengkulu when Novel was serving as the Bengkulu Police chief of detectives.

Novel was part of the KPK's investigation team into the graft-ridden procurement of driving simulators for the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) -- a 2012 case that implicated then Korlantas chief Insp. Gen. Djoko Susilo. (hhr)(+++)
