resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated on Tuesday the Indonesia Port Corporation (IPC) University in Ciawi, Bogor, West Java. The university is designed to become a center of excellence in the fields of port management, maritime affairs and logistics.
The university belongs to state port management company PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) II, where a training center it established in 2013 has been transformed into a corporate university designed not only for its employees but also for people from other institutions and the public in general.
The institution is meant to constitute a transformation program to help improve the quality of human resources.
"We hope the new university will be able to make a positive and significant contribution to the operational work of ports in Indonesia," IPC University president director RJ Lino said as quoted by Antara news agency.
The university campus is built on a five-hectare plot of land and is equipped with various facilities, including classrooms, warehouse simulation equipment, simulation rooms, a ballroom, residences and an administration building.
The IPC University has cooperated with a number of other universities like the IMD Business School, STC-BV, Kuhne Logistics University, Universitas Indonesia, ITB, ITS, Unsri, UGM and Unhas.
"The government has aggressively developed ports in various cities across Indonesia. The hard infrastructure has to be accompanied by the soft infrastructure development of human resources, people who are competent and professional," Lino said. (hhr) (++++)
