resident Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo opened on Tuesday a new university specializing in maritime affairs education belonging to state-run PT Pelindo II in Ciawi, West Java.
The campus was named the Indonesia Port Corporation (IPC) Corporate University and was built on five hectares of land in the hills near Mount Salak, with built-in facilities including a seaport warehouse simulation and simulators for cranes, ships and container terminals.
'Our 'sea toll road' vision will not only consist of building seaports or making ships, but also developing a good system and preparing for the necessary human resources,' Jokowi said in at the campus.
'We ought to be the best in maritime affairs,' the President added.
The IPC Corporate University would put a strong educational emphasis on seaport management, marine services and logistical efficiency, as well as management and leadership skills.
To develop its students, the IPC Corporate University has struck cooperation deals with the IMD Business School in Switzerland, STC-BV in the Netherlands, Kuhne Logistics University in Germany, as well as local universities such as the University of Indonesia (UI), the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), the 10 November Institute of Technology, Sriwijaya University, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and Hasanuddin University.
'The development of the hard infrastructure of seaports in Indonesia must be accompanied by the advancement of soft infrastructure, in this case capable and professional human resources,' said RJ Lino, the president director of Pelindo II. (hhr) (++++)
