Five people reportedly died in the blaze, while three others sustain severe burns and are being treated at the Anutapura Hospital in Palu.
Two of the five fatalities have been identified as Rijal Tole, 21, and Suprianto, 23. The three other fatalities have yet to be identified. The three critically injured victims have been identified as Bambang, 44, Sulamir, 20 and Viktor, 49.
'Rijal died after leaping off the boat as his body was severely burned, while Suprianto died after eight hours of hospital treatment,' said Donggala Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Guntur.
Eyewitness Rulis said he heard a blast and saw thick smoke, then rushed to the boat and saw four people on fire at the jetty.
Other residents arrived and rushed the victims to the hospital by truck. The boat skipper was not at the location.
