he Aburizal Bakrie-led faction of the Golkar Party is playing down a plan to hold an extraordinary congress proposed by certain senior party figures, saying that only the legal process could bring an end to the party's prolonged internal conflict.
'We will stick to the legal process. We will wait for the PTUN's [Jakarta State Administrative Court] ruling,' the chairman of the Golkar faction at the House of Representatives, Ade Komaruddin, said here on Tuesday.
A number of party figures, including patron board chairman Akbar Tandjung, called for an extraordinary congress to end the conflict and allow the party to contest simultaneous local elections in December 2015.
'Any proposal is, of course, welcomed, but that is his [Akbar's], not ours,' said Ade.
Previously, Aburizal lashed out at the proposed congress and said his camp had no funds to cover it since such an event would cost around Rp 30 billion (US$2.31 million).
