The Denpasar District Court sentenced on Tuesday US citizens Tommy Schaefer and partner Heather Lois Mack to 18 and 10 years in prison, respectively, for killing Mack'€™s mother. Schaefer, 21, and Mack, 19, were charged under Article 340 of the Criminal Code on premeditated murder. The body of the victim, 62-year-old Sheila Ann von Wiese-Mack, was stuffed into a suitcase and put into a taxi trunk on Aug. 12, 2014, by the young couple in Nusa Dua, where the three had been vacationing.

Your comments:

It is strange that these two persons are found guilty of murder and are sentenced to 18 and 10 years imprisonment, respectively.

The prisoners involved in drug trafficking that do not murder anyone directly are given the death penalty. Is there a travesty of justice somewhere in the judicial process?

On one hand it appears the judiciary gives murderers a chance to repent, which is admirable, but on another hand drug traffickers are not giving any chance to even commute the death sentence to life imprisonment. This must be really baffling to understand.
