he Surakarta municipality has been unable to relocate and compensate the residents of 67 plots of privately owned land located along the Bengawan Solo River because funding for the purpose has yet to be disbursed.
Twelve of the 67 plots are included in the land-acquisition program in the 2015 fiscal year at a cost of Rp 3.3 billion (US$254,000), while the 55 other plots are included in the 2016 budget.
The program, which commenced in 2012, is part of flood-mitigation efforts on the Bengawan Solo River.
'Funds from the 2015 city budget haven't been disbursed,' said Women's Empowerment, Child Protection and Family Planning Agency community empowerment affairs head Sukendar Tri Cahyo Kemat on Wednesday.
Government data showed a total of 227 privately-owned plots located along the river banks, 193 of which have been acquired and the tenants relocated in 2013 and 2014.
