he economic cooperation between Singapore and Indonesia in developing the Batam, Bintan and Karimun Special Economic Zone (KEK BBK) has lapsed since President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo took office.
The cooperation, initiated by former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, was followed up with the creation of a joint working group (JWG), which met on a regular basis after the cooperation was established in June, 2006.
Infrastructure and Regional Development Acceleration coordinating affairs deputy Luky Eko Wuryanto told The Jakarta Post last week that the JWG involving both countries in the framework of developing the KEK BBK had not met during Jokowi's administration.
'The last meeting was during Yudhoyono's administration,' said Luky.
The official, however, doubted whether the outcome of cooperation, which has been ongoing for almost 10 years, would amount to a great deal.
'We'll just be good neighbors. If we're invited we'll come. Actually, I have doubts about the implementation of the cooperation, due to the current competition with Malaysia,' said Luky.
