Text your say: FIFA'€™s warning to Indonesian soccer

Imam Nahrawi - JP/Jerry Adiguna

Your comments on the warning from the world soccer body FIFA to Indonesia to solve its soccer dispute by May 29 or face sanctions, including the exclusion of Indonesian soccer clubs from international competitions:

It'€™s high time the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) was totally reformed in order to be able to allow all soccer clubs under its supervision to compete in international soccer events.

Threatened or not by FIFA the PSSI must have credible and accountable officials to lead Indonesian football, as we know since 1952 the PSSI has never been reputable in any international event but only in village competitions.

FIFA turned a blind eye to the conditions of our football and doesn'€™t understand that besides FIFA regulations, there are also laws that have to be applied and complied with by all national Indonesian football-related organizations as part of the Indonesian red and white team.

FIFA'€™s warning about banning Indonesia should not be made on the personal vested interests of the persons who are leading the federation but only after thoughtful and wise consideration in order not to insult our country'€™s sovereignty.

We need FIFA but FIFA also needs us.

The current government has been meddling in the affairs of national soccer.

The current stalemate will lead to sanctions by FIFA, if they don'€™t a find solution before May 29.

The people of Indonesia as supporters of their own clubs, like Jakmania, staged a protest in front of the State Palace demanding President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo help settle this problem.

It is another reminder that there is a bigger world out there that the Indonesian government needs to participate in and not to build a big wall around itself and pretend nothing is wrong with the way it conducts business.

Don'€™t worry about FIFA'€™s sanctions. The PSSI should reorganize itself to become a reliable bona fide organization. Our clubs anyway are internationally insignificant and have never won a major championship.

Later when the PSSI has been reformed as an honorable organization and our football has reached Asian standards, we can re-apply and resume our activities as a FIFA member.
