Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama complained that many Jakarta civil servants were paid more than their capacity and performance.
"Salary and take-home pay in the Jakarta administration is very high. Those who don't even work can receive up to Rp 9 million (US$686.38) a month. However, many civil servants are paid more than their performance, when their capacity is actually only worth Rp 2 million, for example," Ahok said during an inauguration of echelon III and IV officials at City Hall on Monday.
Starting this year, the city administration implemented a new allowance system, where bonus pay is categorized as either 'dynamic' or 'static'. Dynamic pay, distributed every three months, depends on work performance, while static pay, disbursed every month, is determined by daily attendance and appraisals by supervisors. Some officials enjoy a 100 percent raise.
Ahok went on to say that the city did not need civil servants who were mediocre or lazy. Further, Ahok said that the city administration would not tolerate those who were corrupt and collected illegal levies and gratuities.
"Before my tenure as governor ends, I want to create a habit for Jakarta's civil servants where everyone is discipline, effective and not corrupt. Anyone who doesn't agree with my idea may leave the city administration," Ahok said. (hhr)
