ost participating energy companies at the upcoming IPA Convex are set to display their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs through attractively designed booths to show how communities can benefit from such programs.
Centralized in the CSR Zone, exhibitors will showcase the highlights of their CSR programs.
Energy firm Santos Indonesia, for instance, will highlight its endeavors in empowering local residents, particularly women on the island close its operations, as well as how they can grow their own livelihoods and help themselves and others grow.
'Our particular showcase is the waste recycling activities of women from Giligenting Island, who recycle plastic waste and transform it into useful bags,' said Alvin Anwari, a spokesman for the company.
"We will also share their experiences in making fashion items from recyclable waste and stage programs available in the CSR area," he said.
According to him, the company will present its journey in Indonesia and also tell of its history.
'We want people to know about Santos, what Santos is, why we are in Indonesia, who we are, where our activities are located and how we manage our relations with communities,' Alvin said.
'We hope to show our support for the oil and gas community in this difficult time and the event is a means to disseminate the message that our industry cares for local communities, of which we are a part, by providing them with the tools to empower themselves and help others develop for a better future.'
Meanwhile, Inpex sees its community development program as an important component of the oil and gas business.
The company runs programs beneficial to local community, regarding economic development and improving local commodity production through seafood cultivation.
'In the area of education, we also provide scholarships and extracurricular activities. In the area of health, we build sanitation facilities,' the company said, adding that it also assisted local communities in developing ikat weaving programs in Maluku as part of its social culture programs.
Multiplier effects
According to the company, IPA serves as a bridge between the company and the public to reveal Inpex's decades of commitment and benefits to the country.
'IPA is also an outlet to explain to the public about the progress of our projects and its milestones.'
The company will have two separate booths, one of which will display its Abadi project, general information related to the project, its multiplier effects, illustrations of facilities and installed equipment, and processes that are presently being run.
Another booth will display its social investment activities as Inpex's true commitment to local communities.
'We would like to highlight Inpex's commitment in supporting the government to manage oil and gas activities in Indonesia,' said the company.
It said that its current focus was to develop the Abadi field, a vital project that would help meet energy needs in the future and 'provide multiplier effects to businesses in general, governments and society.'
The Abadi gas field is located in the Masela Block of the Arafura Sea in Eastern Indonesia, near Indonesia's sea border with Australia.
'Through this event we expect maximum support from all strategic stakeholders, including the government, communities and institutions associated with the Abadi project, thus gaining support in determining its business plan, carried out in accordance with the needs of the project and implemented in accordance with the agreed schedule.'
Chevron will involve its executives who will explain what the company has been doing.
'It will be a rare opportunity to get information [about Chevron],' the company said.
Like many other exhibitors, it will exhibit the latest oil and gas-related technology and social investment programs.
'We will provide information on how as a responsible oil and gas company, we produce oil and gas by taking care of the environment and the communities in which we operate,' it said.
